A1 - And1 Coach
GA - Greg Anthony
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
GA - Welcome again to another edition of "Meet the Playa". I'm your host, Greg Anthony, and with us here isn't a player but instead the coach of the And1 team. Welcoem to the show coach.
A1 - Thank you Greg.
GA - Coach, this is your first season as a coach in this league. How do you like it so far?
A1 - So far i'm enjoying myself. We;ve had a few problems to start off the season but i'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
GA - Lets talk about some of those problems. You lost out in the Hurricane signing. What is your take on that?
A1 - It would have been really nice to sign a player of that caliber. I was somewhat shocked when he removed us from the list of teams that he was considering, especially with his good friend Machine on the team.
GA - Next your star player and floor general, Starbury, comes into camp out of shape. That had to be a disappoinment too.
A1 - Most definitely. Starbury was a MVP candidate last season and was to be our top scoring option this season. He had some personal problems and came in to camp out of shape. He missed the pre-season entirely but I hope that he gets back in form soon.
GA - Finally, the biggest blow comes when you can't get your 1st round draft pick signed. How has this impacted you?
A1 - This hurt us a lot. Q-York was slated to be our starting SF. He played in the preseason and was looking good. When we couldn't come to terms in contract talks, he decided to sit out until the contract is finalized.
GA - How are the contract negotiations going?
A1 - All I can say is that we are waiting to hear back from his agent. I hope that this can get done quickly since it is hurting us in other ways.
GA - Other ways? What do you mean by that?
A1 - It hard to make any kind of trades when you aren't sure if Q is going to be part of the team or not. We don't know if we need to bring in another SF or not. At the same time, we are unsure who we can trade away without causing depth problems. Luckily Exile has stepped up and kept us afloat.
GA - Exile has been pretty good so far. He is one of the bright spots on the team, especially for being a 2nd round pick.
A1 - We couldn't be happier with his performance so far. So far he's outplayed some of the vets.
GA - I know that you are somewhat limited in trades depending on how the Q-York situation pans out but do you see any moves on the horizon?
A1 - As well as Exile and Iggy have played, we could stand to get stronger in the SG/SF spots. We have heard that Mad D wants to join And1 so that is something that we are looking into. Then we could move either Hulk or Machine to SF and go with big front court.
GA - Do you feel any pressure to make a move since Nike has been making moves and appear to be the team to beat?
A1 - I'm only going to make moves it really helps this squad win. That is my only goal.
GA - Do you think that And1 can win it all as they are?
A1 - We are a very good team. If we can get Q-York in here we will be that much better. Right now, I think we can compete with anyone and if things pan out as I hope they do, we might be talking Championship!
GA - You heard it here folks. Watch out for And1! Thanks for joining us today coach and best of luck to you and your team.
A1 - Thanks Greg.
