----------------------------------------------------------------------
GA - Welcome again to a special episode of "Meet the Playa". I'm your host, Greg Anthony, and with us today we have Michael "Hurricane" Henson. Welcome to the show Hurricane.
MHH - Thanks Greg. As always, it's nice to be here.
GA - It's great to have you and thanks for showing up on such short notice. We're here to day to talk about the big trade in the CSSL today. Nike has sent you along with a 1st round pick to Converse for Fresh Skillz. Did you have any that you were going to be traded?
MHH - I had no idea. I was playing better as of late and even made the All-Star team. I didn't find out until just a few hours ago. The Nike coach told me that they were talking to converse about a trade that involved me and shortly after that the deal was done.
GA - How does it feel to go from the team with the best record in the league to the team with the worst record?
MHH - I'm definitely a little bummed to be leaving such a good team like Nike but I think that I will have more of an opportunity to flourish with Converse.
GA - How so?
MHH - Well, I hope to get more minutes as well as being a scoring option. I haven't really gotten a chance to show people what I can do yet. I'm hoping to really surprise some people.
GA - You surprised some people in the 3 vs. 3 tournament. As captain of the Rim Bangers you lead them to a first round victory as well as put up some very nice numbers. Is this a glimmer of what we'll see from you in the future?
MHH - I don't know if you're ever going to see me score 57 points again. That was pretty lucky. I do hope to increase my scoring average quite a bit by the time the playoffs start.
GA - The Converse coach said that he wants to play you at the shooting guard spot. Since you have played the first half of the season as a small forward, what do you think of the idea?
MHH - I'm not really sure. Realistically I can play the 2, 3, or 4 spots. At 6'10" i'm a little tall for a SG but i'm quick enough and long enough to really give the other guy fits.
GA - What areas do you think that you need to work on as a SG?
MHH - I've already talked to the coaches and they want me to improve my perimeter defense. I also want to work on my passing and stealing since i'm now playing a guard spot.
GA - What are you looking for from your new team?
MHH - Honestly i'm looking for a chance to get better. I figure that would be the best way to help my new team. I would obviously like as much playing time as possible and to be a scoring option. Hopefully I can prove to them very quickly that I deserve it.
GA - Do you think that Converse can win it all with you on their team now?
MHH - Uh....Converse is 1 - 9 and i'm only one guy. I know that we will make the playoffs regardless of our record so anything can happen. Right now I want to concentrate on getting to know my teammates, getting a few wins, and getting ready for the playoffs. I'll have a little extra motivation if we play Nike.
GA - About your last comment. Do you hold any ill will towards your old team or their coach. There was talk of you being unhappy with only playing 3 minutes in the All-Star game as well as a couple problems early in the season. Is there anything we should know about?
MHH(laughing) - I can't tell you why I only played 3 minutes in the All-Star game. The coach apologized for playing me so little after the game. As for our problems earlier in the season, I think that they were all resolved. I'm a competitor and I wanted to play, wanted to win, wanted to be the best. Nike does what's best for Nike. I'd love to say that they made a huge mistake in trading me. Time will be the judge and jury on that.
GA - Well put Hurricane. We here at "Meet the Playa" wish you the best of luck and hope that do well with your new squad.
MHH - Thanks Greg. I appriciate that.
