GA - Welcome again to CSSL's "Meet the Playa". I'm Greg Anthony, your host, and with me today is a young man who is turning critics into believers, Darko "The Machine" Milicic. Welcome Darko.
TM - Thank you Greg but I prefer be named The Machine.
GA - Ok Machine. Why are you going by your nickname now?
TM - I am new person. New player. I work much harder and play much better. I wish to be called The Machine so I remember to play hard and better.
GA - Good enough. How do you like the CSSL so far?
TM - It is much fun. There is very much skill here and it very exciting.
GA - Now, you were once the number two overall pick in the NBA and have been called by many a bust. How do you respond to that?
TM - When I pick number two, I was just boy from Serbia-Montenegro. I not speak the english or really know how NBA was. Then I play on team but not play in game.
GA - Yes, it is well known that many people say that given decent playing time that you would have progressed much faster. Would you agree?
TM - Of course. Don't be stupid. I play hard and well in practice but the coach didn't let me play in the game. I finally go back home and play for country. They coach me well and inspire me to get good.
GA - Did you have a good relationship will Hall of Fame coach, Larry Brown?
TM - No. He did not like me. He said I lazy and then he never play me. He never give me chance.
GA - Were you unhappy with the Pistons?
TM - Not team. They are great bunch of guys. It great organization. We win Championship and almost two. I have ring, see?
GA - Yes I do. It must be an amazing thing to win a Championship in your very first pro season.
TM - Yes, but I want to be more a part. I want contribute more than warming bench.
GA - Spoken like a true competitor. Speaking of Championships, what are your thought about your And1 team?
TM - We very good team. We play hard. We have very good chance of winning everything.
GA - Do you think that the CSSL is harder than the NBA?
TM - Not is harder. Just different.
GA - How so?
TM - Is more for scoring. Is more faster and more jumping about and running.
GA - As a side note I must say that your english is much improved.
TM - Thank you. Besides the working out and practicing the basketball, I work on the english every day.
GA - Well it shows. Have you acclimated yourself to living in the U.S?
TM - What is acclimate?
GA - Adapted. Um...are you comfortable now here in the U.S?
TM - Oh, yes I am happy here. I recenetly get drivers licence for car.
GA - Good for you. Now lets get back to basketball. What part of your game do you see that needs improving?
TM - I must work on the everything. I need to score more. I must play the more defense. Most of all I must improve on the rebounding.
GA - Now before we go, i'd like to ask you about your agent, Mr. Pennypincher.
TM - Oh, him a crazy man. He very good agent though. He take care of me like son.
GA - I might agree with the crazy part
TM - Did he do that? ( pointing to the cast on Greg's arm)
GA - Yes. That would be Mr. Pennypinchers work.
TM - He get very excited some time. Bets to stay out of way.
