2008 Awards

Mister O. Pinion
The CSSL awards just came out. Like every year, time for me to go on another rant.
First off, I gotta give some love to Afro Thunder. After being voted into the 2007 All First Team, and winning 4 game MVP awards, he doesn't get a single award this season. Not even All Second Team! C'mon guys.
Also, once again, no love to the league's best player, The Machine. The Machine manned the middle for South Conference leading Reebok, put up 34 pts, 17 rebs, 5 blks, and 4 assists (probably leading the league in the middle two), while having excellent defense that doesn't show up in the stats and a league-leading SEVEN Game MVP awards. Instead of winning his well-deserved second-straight MVP award, it's given to his 'sidekick', The Choker. Now, don't get me wrong, The Choker's a hell of a player, but his statistics were not as impressive this season, and his defense is inferior to The Machine's. It's like if the award were given to Kobe over Shaq a few years back -- yes, Shaq kept winning it and it was boring, but saying Kobe's better is simply wrong. Anyway, the two seem happy, and should make a good run in the playoffs.
In fact, let me go on record saying that Reebok will end Nike's championship streak this season. The Choker and The Machine are just too tough to stop, and Nike's old strength, defense, isn't going to hold up. Especially because they dealt Exile for....
Flash. Flash is an awesome player, but he quickly turned from slightly underrated to very overrated in a span of a couple of days. Yes, he's the league's leading scorer, but he's not a great defensive player, and he was getting a small amount of assists at the point. He can score, but that's about it. The fact that nobody even questioned his All First Team selection is ridiculous.
Finally, I'll end this article on a pleasant note, giving a little love to a couple of Northern teams matching up in the first round, Converse and Adidas. These teams really look to be on the brink of seriously turning things around, playing good ball at the end of the season, and the fact that they will have good draft picks coming up is huge. Both look to have good futures ahead.
One last note: Much love goes out to Chris "Masterlock" Stevens, who officially announced his retirement from the CSSL. Good guy, good player. He'll be missed.
That's it for now. We should have a good playoffs ahead of us.
Keep it up, City Slam.
