Awards Predictions
(ESPN)- As the season comes to a close, the voting for the CSSL season awards are getting set to open. These awards are to recognize the most outstanding individual accomplishments of the players in the CSSL league.
The following are just my predictions as to who will win these honors, please do not take it as official ratings, or allow it to influence your voting.
Player Of The Year- Michael “Hurricane” Henson (Puma)-
Key Stats- 26.1 PPG, 10.9 RPG, 5.5 APG, 2.4 BPG
Henson, the reigning MIP (Most Improved Player), and decided to join Puma’s quest to dethrone the defending champions, and his former team, Nike. Hurricane has been able to lead Puma to an amazing 11-1 record, and it seems as if his team will have home court advantage thought the playoffs, giving them the best chances to win the championship.
Hurricane is having the best season of his career, as he was a starter on the All-Star game, as well as a member of the winning 3-on-3 team.
With other worthy candidates such as The Machine, the defending champion Flash, The Choker. Hurricane’s ability to lead Puma to the best record in the league, puts him over the top.
Rookie Of The Year- Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter (Converse)-
Key Stats- 26.3 PPG, 9 RPG, 4.3 APG
With many new rookies in CSSL such as Prodigy, Great Wall, The Game, Masterlock, Sargent Swat, and Underdog- what stands out about Jay-Z is that he joined CSSL on week 6 and immediately became the franchise player for the 0-6 Converse Street Team. Since Jay-Z joined, Converse won 2 games, and has been able to keep pace a few close contests.
Jay-Z is one of 4 rookies to participate in the All-Star game, and in only 12 minutes of action, Jay-Z was able to put up 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Defensive Player Of The Year- Stromile “Mad D” Williams (And 1)-
Key Stats- 14.3 RPG, 3.2 BPG, 0.5 SPG
With a name like Mad D it is no wonder that he gets mention for this honor. With names like Fresh Skillz, Jazz, and Great Wall out there- what puts Mad D over the top is his ability to defend many positions.
When And 1 had acquired Mad D from Converse, they had asked him to play a new position- a position he had never played before, small-forward. Mad D is one of few players who can make that big of a switch and not be a liability.
The SF position is such a competitive position, that not even Mad D- the reigning All-Star MVP could make the All-Star team.
Most Improved Player- Latrell “The Choker” Artest (Nike)-
Key Stats- 25.2 PPG 13.0 RPG 3.8 APG
Ever since this natural SF made the big switch to take over the PG position in Nike, Choker has been murdering. In his 4 games at PG, Artest has put up 3 triple doubles, and has been averaging an amazing 25.8 PPG, 13.5 APG, and 13 RPG.
The Choker was voted into the All-Star game as a starting SF and put up 29 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in 39 minutes of play.
6h Man Of The Year- Romeo “Hot Shot” Young (Nike)-
Key Stats- 19.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 5.1 APG
It is surprising when a player like Young accepts a 6th ma role after being such a pivotal player on last year’s championship squad and earning All-CSSL 1st team honors.
When Nike coach Desperado decided that Choker should play the point, he asked his former superstar Hot Shot to come off the bench and backup the 1 as well as other positions on the floor, and Hot Shot willingly agreed. Hot Shot played all around the rotation, including some center!
Hot Shot is the first player in CSSL history to be All-CSSL 1st Team one year, and a 6th Man during his 2nd year. And he has done a great job at it.
I would like to thank you for reading my article, and would like to wish all players the best of luck during this awards voting process.
