(Adidas Press)- Rookie Yao "Great Wall" Ming was excited to be a part of the festivities of the second annual CSSL all-star weekend. Ming was a part of the rookies versus sophmores game, the 3-on-3 weekend, and voted in to the main event, the all-star game.
Great Wall's weekend started out great. Great Wall had a solid rookie game putting up a double-double (10/12), 6 assists, and 5 blocked shots. Ming's 3-on-3 contest went great as he helped Jazz & Hurricane lead the big three to win the tournement.
His all-star game, however, not an experiance he'd like to remember. Voted in as a backup center, Great Wall saw a dissappointing 6 minutes. He went for 4 points (1 of 1 from the field, and 2 for 2 from the line), 3 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 foul.
Though his team, the Northern All-Stars won by 4, he was very dissappointed by the outcome. In a recent interview with TNT's Charles Barkley, Ming told the press, "It's an all-star game man. The fans voted me in, they wanted me to play. By benching me for 42 minutes, Nike coach Desperado has deprived the fans of giving them the pleasure to see me play."
"I don't know what his problem is. I mean, Stoppa was playing great- but this is an All-Star game. It's an exhibition game. I'm not even getting paid to play in it, but I deceided to play for the fans. And I didn't get that chance."
"I wonder why he benched me. Is it because I'm asian? Is it because Stoppa plays for Nike? Is it because he hates big people?"
Good friend of Great Wall, Bentley, who participated in the slam dunk contest, and attended the all-star game said, "Yo man, it's his rookie year, it's his first All-Star game. He worked his ass off to get there. That's not right man, that's not fucking right!"
Ming concluded his interview with saying "I know that Coach Desperado is a championship-quality coach, I know that he's a well-accomplished man, but I feel that he is a horrible human being. How dare he bench me for 42 minutes. I can't believe it. I just can't believe it."
