It's a new season in the CSSL and for one team, a new start. And1 went into the offseason intact and happy as far as everyone knew. They had all five starters coming back and 2 draft picks to add depth. They were coming off of a solid performance in the playoffs and were looking to challenge Nike for the top spot.
Then out of the blue came the news. And1's owner, Nate, decided to step down for personal reasons. Most of the league was surprised to say the least. With the draft quickly coming up, Nate was quickly replaced with Mmisk and then the other shoe dropped. One of And1's starters and a main scoring option was retiring. Splashdown said that he had enough.
Mmisk took no time in making changes. Within hours of taking over And1 he shipped Speedy to Nike for big man Money A. Over last season And1 had suffered losses by having a lack of depth in the frontcourt. Money A was broguht in to fix that problem.
Next came draft day. MMisk used his first pick (#4 overall) to try to find a replacement fro Splashdown. He selected SF Q-York, a fine looking rookie who is expected to improve quicker than most. With his second pick (#9 overall) Mmisk selected Exile, a PG/SG who will form a very formidable 3 man back court with Starbury and Iggy Slam.
Within moments of the draft ending, Mmisk contacted FA PG Hops and made a deal to bring him aboard further adding to And1's depth. This allows And1 to run an eight man rotation and adresses all of last years depth problems.
Are there any more changes on the horizon? There were rumors of And1 signing the much coveted free agent Hurricane. It is true that And1 is in discussions with Hurricane but inside sources say that he is leaning towards either joining Puma or staying with Converse.
Although it has been a turbulent off-season, And1 has come out of it looking pretty good. They have replaced their departing starter and brought in some badly needed depth. Will And1 win the Championship? They expect nothing less.
