He's a very good player. He has worked as hard as anyone on inproving his game. His inside game is fantasctic. His shooting is top notch. He is yery solid defensively and is a force on the boards. Why is this player not a star in this league. One reason. He is the man that fouls too much.
Darko "The Machine" Milicic is one of the leagues up and coming stars. The problem is that he simply isn' t on the floor enough to put up all-star numbers. Although his coach would love to play Darko 48 minutes a game, Darko has struggled with foul trouble all season long.
The season started on a bad note as Darko fouled out of his very first game. He had still compiled a double double but managed to play only 28 minutes. His second game, and the only one this season where he played all 48 minutes, was by far his best as he scored 22 points, grabbed 22 rebounds, and had 7 blocks. His true ability was starting to show.
In the next few games Darko fought with Mad D for playing time until he was once again named the starter. Unfortunately for Darko, his playing time didn't increase with Mad D gone. In the two most recent games, Darko fouled out of both playing just 33 minutes in the game 7 and a season low 21 minutes in game 8.
The And1 coaches and several league analyists have struggled to determine the exact cause of Darko's woes. After much discussion the best guess is that his post defense just isn't good enough against the leagues other top centers.
So now Darko and And1 are working hard to fix the problem. The team has brought in former defensive stand out and Hall of Famer, David Robinson to work on Darko's defensive game. His post defense has shown dramatic improvement and he looks forward to his next game.
Despite his foul woes, Darko has still managed to put together a very solid season. In just 32.6 minutes per game, The Machine has averaged 17.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game. Although solid numbers, Darko knows that he can do much better. If his foul problem gets solved The Machine will become a truely dominant force in the game
