CSSL Week 2 Recap
Nike 120, Adidas 105
Summer League All-Star MVP Show Stoppa bounced back from a poor first game with one of the top performances so far this season, scoring 37 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. After shooting just 5 for 19 from the field against AND1 in Week 1, the #2 pick shot 17 for 31 in Nike's second win of the season. Adidas had a balanced scoring attack with all five players scoring between 16 and 24 points. However, they were hurt a lot when point guard Flash fouled out in the third quarter, only scoring 15 points as a team in the fourth.
AND1 143, Reebok 81
The And1 Streetball Team absolutely dominated this match up of 1-1 teams, setting a point differential record of 62 points. Top pick Hulk was named MVP thanks to an incredible triple-double of 21 points, 30 rebounds, and 15 assists, to go along with 6 blocks. Splashdown led the team with 42 points, and Starbury also had a fantastic performance with 39 points and 14 assists while shooting 15 for 18 from the field. Also, The Machine added 22 points, 22 rebounds, and 7 blocks, while Speedy scored 19, 14, and 2. At the other end, no Reebok player shot 50% in the game, and power forward Jazz simply could not stop Hulk. Though blocking six shots, Jazz was forced to play hack-a-hulk, which resulted in him fouling out of the game (and a free nine points for And1). Everything just went And1’s way in this battle.
Puma 133, Converse 108
Puma point guard Silk led his team to the win with 30 points, 16 assists, and 8 rebounds, while also being named Game MVP. The team’s depth ended up helping them out a lot in this game, with seven players scoring in double digits. Converse was led by Rain Man, Alpha Male, and Yo Daddy, who each scored 20+ points. However, their weakness in the backcourt was still strong, as recent signing J-Wall didn’t seem to be the answer at the point. J-Wall and Fresh Skillz combined for 13-39 shooting from the field, and the team continued to hurt themselves in the turnover department, losing the battle 55-38. Though Converse did pull down more rebounds than Puma, Puma’s 19-19 free-throw shooting ended up being a key part of their victory.
